Messages to endpoints

Send a message that pops up on the end user's screen. Use it for a heads-up ("Router reboot at 4pm, please save your work") or an interactive prompt with buttons ("Reboot needed. Click Reboot now.").

Messages are rendered by the Tray app, so the endpoint needs the tray installed and a user signed in. Servers with no interactive session won't show anything, which is usually what you want.

Send a message

1. Go to Agents.
2. Tick the endpoints you want to message.
3. In the bulk toolbar, click Send Message.
4. Fill in the card:
   • Title and Message — the text the user sees.
   • Urgency — sets the accent colour (low / normal / high).
   • On screen — either keep it up until the user acts (Keep on screen until the user acts), or auto-dismiss after a number of seconds.
   • Buttons — add any number of buttons (see below). With no buttons, the card shows a single Dismiss.
5. Check the live Preview, then click Send. The response tells you how many endpoints it reached.

Buttons

Each button has a label and an action:

Action	What it does
Dismiss	Closes the card. No side effect.
Acknowledge	Closes the card (records the click in a later release).
Reboot now	Reboots the endpoint immediately. The user's click is the confirmation.
Open a link	Opens a URL in the user's default browser (a KB article, a form, the portal).
Snooze	Hides the card and re-shows it after a set number of minutes.

Reboot buttons

A Reboot now button restarts the machine the moment the user clicks it. You can only add one if your role holds the agents.cmd permission (the same permission the bulk Reboot action uses).

Notes

• If an endpoint is offline when you send, the message is buffered and shown the next time the tray connects. Set an expiry on time-sensitive messages so a stale "reboot at 4pm" doesn't appear at 6pm.
• Messages are for the person at the keyboard. To raise a ticket or alert instead, use Monitoring & alerts.
